Please see below for the 2013-2014 Biology Scholars Capstone pre-assignment and agenda. As you know, the Capstone is held just prior to the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE). To facilitate networking at the  conference, we have provided a list of Scholars who have registered for ASMCUE. Don't forget that you can use the Biology Scholars Directory to learn more about who they are:

Capstone Pre-Assignment (Due: May 2nd):

1.      >  Read the publication, “Creating a Faculty Culture of Student Success”:

2.     >  Click the "Attach File or Image" button at the bottom of this page (you must be logged in to the Wiki). Upload the following information as one Word Document:

a.       An abstract of your of your journey since leaving the training Institute last summer (up to 300 words).  Include what has worked well, what has been a challenge and what you still hope to accomplish as a Biology Scholar Alum;

b.      A table or a figure that helps to illustrate your past year’s work; and

c.       1-3 references that have informed your past year’s work.

3.    >   Familiarize yourself with your institution’s mission statement and/or goals. Bring 20 hardcopies of this information to share with other Scholars at the Capstone.

Progress Over The Previous 12 Months:  IRBs, Alignment of Research and Data, Data Analysis, Assessment Strategies (facilitator-led small groups) – Loretta Brancaccio-Taras

Communicating Value and Convincing Colleagues About SoTL– Loretta Brancaccio-Taras

In this session, Scholars will prepare an “elevator talk” about communicating value in SoTL; Scholars will align their response to their institutional goals. Scholars will present to the group for feedback.

Case Studies  – Laurie Caslake, Samantha Elliott, and Nitya Jacob

In this session, Scholars will hear from peers about their journey into SoTL – aligning their research question and data collection/analysis and publishing their work.

Leadership and Closure – Jodie Krontiris-Litowitz  and Loretta Brancaccio-Taras

In this session, Scholars will learn about becoming agents of change at their home institution, their new role as BSP ambassadors, and available resources for Biology Scholars Alumni. At the end, network with existing Scholar Alumni and learn about their post-Residency experiences.
