·         Clear and Concise 

·         Gives a specific indication of what the study is about 

INTRODUCTION 

·         Clearly state and define the problem 

·         State its significance 

·         State research question and/or hypothesis 

·         Give rationale for hypothesis or question (Background information) 

o   Are important terms defined? 

o   Are important findings noted? 

·         Cite all facts  

·         Organize the information so it can be easily followed 

METHODS 

·         Present methods in past tense 

·         Do not use run-on sentences 

·         Describe the research design in a concise manner 

·         Describe samples and equipment 

·         Provide detail as needed for specific protocols 

·         Explain statistical analysis 

o   Is it an appropriate statistical test? 

·         Use subheading for long method sections 

·         Is there enough information to repeat the experiment?

·         Present results in past tense 

·         Use text to summarize findings 

·         Use tables/figures 

o   Contains enough information to stand alone 

o   Need a title and legend 

o   Label axes 

o   Figures are graphs, drawing, and photos

·         Raw data is not presented 

·         Differences are expressed with statistical verification 

DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION 

·         Verify or disprove the hypothesis using the data 

·         Discuss unusual or unexpected finding 

·         Cite all connections between the literature and current data 

·         Distinguish facts from speculation 

BIBLIOGRAPHY 

·         Citations are needed for all references cited in the text 

·         Citation includes author(s), year, article title, publication, volume and page number
