Brandeis Institutional Review Board

IRB Meeting Dates and Submission Deadlines for Full Review

The Brandeis Institutional Review Board usually meets during the second week of each month. It reviews protocols requiring

review and discusses relevant business to the functioning of the IRB at Brandeis. Full review applications are subject to the submission deadlines listed below.

ONLY PROTOCOLS INVOLVING GREATER THAN MINIMAL RISK TO RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS ARE SUBJECT TO THE DEADLINES BELOW AND REQUIRE REVIEW BY THE FULL COMMITTEE.

Protocols involving

less than minimal risk

to research participants (

Exempt

and

Expedited

protocols) are reviewed on a

ROLLING BASIS

. Remember, an application will only be considered complete and ready to send for review once the IRB office has received the electronic version of your protocol (at

irb@brandeis.edu

)

AND

the original hardcopy with all required signatures. It is advisable to submit your application for review

at least six weeks

prior to the time you wish to commence your research, so that your research is not prevented due to the IRB review process. Remember, if you are submitting an application for Full Review, the IRB Office must receive your entire application electronically (at

),

AND

receive one original hardcopy application, with

Investigator training:

·         All Olin investigators will be expected to maintain up-to-date certification from the CITI Program in order to continue in the role of investigator.  The CITI program is an on-line tool designed to educate those conducting human subject research, about the ethical conduct of this work.  All protocol directors, as well as any faculty, students, staff, and other individuals working on a research protocol are required to take the CITI training course before a protocol is approved by the IRB.  It is the responsibility of the PI to ensure that all persons involved with the research are CITI certified.  The Olin IRB Administrator (currently Claire O’Sullivan) maintains the records of all CITI certified investigators and is notified of certification expirations.  All student researchers are required to take the basic Social/Behavioral Research Course.  In addition, if the research is part of an NSF grant the Responsible Conduct of Research [RCR] module must be completed as well.
