Building Scientists

It has been suggested that inquiry aids in

1. Cementing the knowledge of science as a process

2. providing avenues to teach critical thinking

3. encouraging engagement at a higher level than a simple understanding of course content

4. providing students context upon which to place content knowledge.

    

My Goal currently is to challenge those assumptions.

    

    

Course

Sophomore level course in biology at BU

Large class size (50) with two lab groups (2 sections of five groups each)

Introduction of directed inquiry in the laboratory

Allows students to create and test their own hypotheses in a narrowly focused, somewhat unrestricted manner.
