During the institute, I created a plan for teaching students to write a research paper in a course called, ”Biology of Women”. I developed a rubric and a syllabus to incorporate small-scale assignments and check-points throughout the course. Although, I dedicated class time and created multiple small assignments designed to allow students to build writing skills necessary for writing a research paper, the outcomes did not demonstrate that students could uniformly write a well organized, research paper with sufficient depth around a central thesis. My future plans involve analyzing the data collected, developing a more effective rubric, and incorporating more effective strategies to improve student writing.
